Welcome to Enjoy Your Life. Today, I will share my visit to Los Angeles, Irvine (Laguna Beach), and San Diego (La Jolla), California.
Los Angeles, CA
It is one of the most popular cities in the U.S. where many Korean Americans live. I've personally visited Los Angeles several times. The city has many advantages, such as warm weather year-round, the ocean, and its closer distance to Korea compared to other U.S. cities. Since it doesn’t rain often, I often found myself reflecting on different thoughts while looking at the dry trees.
Beverly Hills is also popular among Koreans. It is famous for its luxurious streets. When I studied English, I used to practice with a drama called 90210—which is actually the zip code for Beverly Hills. The show was so popular in the U.S. that it aired from 1990 to 2000. It’s a drama about wealthy children living in Beverly Hills, and it even led to the stereotype that all Americans live in mansions like the characters in the show. Later, I realized it was just fiction.
Before my visit Hollywood Boulevard, I imagined Hollywood would be enormous and glamorous, so I had high expectations. But when I finally saw it in person, I was a little disappointed because it was smaller than I expected.
If you see the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stars with the names of famous people are engraved on the sidewalk. I’m sure many artists dream of having their own star here.
If you visit to Los Angeles for the first time, you will see the trees dry, and it hardly rained each time I visited. On that first trip, I was also very disappointed with Koreatown. I was shocked because it felt so messy, and even recently, I thought that Korea itself is much nicer than Koreatown in Los Angeles.
Solvang, CA
Solvang is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive north of Los Angeles. It is famous for its Danish-style architecture and wineries.
Personally, I have never been to Denmark, but after visiting Solvang, I now want to go there someday. I wouldn’t stay in Solvang for more than a day, but since I was in Los Angeles, it was perfect for a day trip.
Calico Ghost Town, CA
Calico Ghost Town is located about a two-hour drive northeast of Los Angeles. When I first heard the name, I felt a little scared—it sounded eerie. The town was originally built around a silver mine. As silver prices dropped, the mines closed, people left, and the town was eventually abandoned.
Walking around the town gave me a chilling feeling, perhaps because no one lives there anymore. It felt especially eerie when I climbed up to the higher part of the village. Like Solvang, I wouldn’t want to stay here overnight, but since I was in Los Angeles, it made for an interesting day trip.

Los Angeles Four nights and five days
Summary: Los Angeles feels like a comfortable city for me. Compared to the Midwest or the Eastern United States, there are more Asians here—especially Korean Americans—so Koreans will likely feel at ease when traveling in Los Angeles. If you enjoy nature, I recommend visiting Laguna Beach, located near Irvine, south of Los Angeles. Personally, I’d give it a 5 out of 5.
Laguna Beach
Irvine is a city about an hour and a half drive south of Los Angeles and is home to many Koreans. Laguna Beach is located about 30 minutes south of Irvine by car. I’m not sure if it’s considered a wealthy area, but there were many mansions and supercars.
Shall we watch the video first?
If you visit here, there’s a place where you can park on the street with coins, so I decided to park and explore. The scenery was absolutely beautiful—the color of the sea was stunning.
I envy the people who live in front of these beaches and can see this view every day. For those who live in such places, I imagine they only come to rest for a few days or months each year, since most people live closer to their workplaces. No matter how beautiful the scenery is, seeing it too often might make it feel ordinary.
The trees were really tall, and the weather was perfect.
I was in the park, which requires an entrance fee. I parked my car there and strolled around slowly. The park was huge and very pleasant.
Along the way, I saw a lizard. At first, it surprised me, but after watching it for a while, I became more comfortable.
It was really nice to take a walk, especially since there weren’t many people around, so I could enjoy it at my own pace.
I also saw a very large bird flying overhead. I’m not sure what kind it was, but it looked like a pelican. When I first saw them soaring above me, I was genuinely amazed.

Summary: California is a wonderful place to relax and recharge. The weather is almost always pleasant, though it doesn’t rain often, so you’ll often notice dry trees. If you visit Irvine, I highly recommend checking out Laguna Beach. The natural scenery is beautiful, making it a perfect spot to unwind. Personally, I’d give it a 4 out of 5.
La Jolla
I arrived at La Jolla Beach and decided to leave my car on the street to take a slow walk along the beach.
Since La Jolla Beach is a famous tourist spot in San Diego, there were a lot of visitors. The scenery was beautiful, and the water was crystal clear. You can also see seagulls—there were so many of them!
The weather was perfect.
Next, I moved over to see the sea lions.
I found them! It was amazing to see sea lions on the beach, even though it wasn’t a zoo. People gathered around to take pictures of them.
There were so many sea lions. You can’t tell from the video below, but they smelled really strong, and their strange cries made it a bit difficult for me to stay there for long.
Some of the sea lions looked like they were thinking or feeling something. What do you think? The one behind it seemed to be deep in thought too—it was so funny to watch.
Now, let’s watch the video of the sea lions. Shall we?
There were sea lions everywhere!
Most of them had their eyes closed, though I’m not sure if they were resting or sleeping.
After touring La Jolla Beach, I got ready to head back to Los Angeles.
The scenery and weather were beautiful.
On the way back from San Diego, I stopped to pick strawberries. The large fields stretched out as far as the eye could see, and I was able to buy a can of freshly picked strawberries. Eating them right after picking was absolutely delicious!
